Monitoring & alerts
How monitoring works
What Domain Flock checks, how often, and where you see the results.
Switching monitoring on or off
In Settings there is a Monitoring switch. It applies to your personal account or to the organization you're working in. When it's on, we check your domains for website, SSL, security and DNS problems and send alerts. When it's off, Domain Flock works as a plain list of your domains. We still keep each domain's registration expiry date and SSL certificate expiry date up to date.
When monitoring is off, the Monitoring page isn't shown in the sidebar and the alert settings are hidden.
What we check
What we check depends on what you told us the domain is used for when you added it.
- Websites: whether the website can be reached, its SSL certificate, and its security headers.
- Other services (mail, DNS and so on): DNS, DMARC and blacklist status.
- Not monitored: only the registration and its expiry date.
For every domain we also look up the registration details, see WHOIS information.
How often we check
Each domain is checked about once a day. We check more often when a certificate or registration is close to expiring, or when a domain is on a blacklist. You can see when a domain was last checked on the monitoring page and on the domain's own page.
The monitoring page
The monitoring page has two views:
- Issues: the issues across your domains, sorted by how urgent they are. Each row shows the domain, the issue and when it was last checked. Click a row for an explanation and steps to fix it.
- Browse all: every domain, with tabs for Registrations, SSL and Health & DMARC.
Once a problem is fixed, its issue disappears by itself after the next check. See Resolving issues.
"Not checked yet" and "could not be checked"
- Not checked yet means no check has run for this item yet. That's normal shortly after adding a domain.
- SSL check failed or SSL certificate could not be checked means we tried but couldn't connect. Check that the website is online.
