WHOIS information

Where your domain's registrar and expiry date come from.

What is WHOIS?

Domains are listed in public registers that show who a domain is registered with and when the registration runs out. Looking this up is often called a WHOIS lookup. We read these registers for you. You don't need to give us access to your registrar account.

What we show

On the domain page, under Registration details, you'll see the registrar and the expiry date. The expiry date is used for the renewal warnings.

We also keep track of the domain's name servers, which are the servers that answer for your domain. If they change, you get a Nameservers changed issue. It could be something you did on purpose, such as moving to a new DNS provider, or something you should look into.

How often it's updated

We check about once a day. When the expiry date is close, we check more often.

When we can't find the expiry date

If we can't find an expiry date, the domain gets an Expiry unknown issue. You can fix it in two ways:

  • On the monitoring page, click Resolve next to the issue and enter the date.
  • Edit the domain and fill in the Expiry date.

You can also fill in the registrar and expiry date yourself when you add a domain.
